On-Board Air Compressor

Installation of VIAir Heavy Duty on-board air compressor system. The main reason for doing this was to be able to handle flats, low tire pressure and most importantly the ability to Air Down and then Air Back Up for overlanding or off-road sessions then back to highway. You can do this with a portable DC powered air compressor but that just takes up space in the vehicle that could be better used for other things, as well as, i can now run various air accessories on board at any time as its available on-board.

I did install the air tank option, which if you are just using this system to Air Backup Up tires you don't really need the tank as the compressor can just output the air you need at the moment you need it. I put the tank in because I had it and it gives me more options down the road. After awhile I'll determine if its necessary to keep the tank based on what else we do.

VIAir Heavy Duty Systems
Air Compressor installed in engine compartment
In the `05 TJ the emissions stuff was moved to rear of vehicle leaving this great open space for mounting stuff like an OBA or power accessories

2.5 gallon Air Tank
TJ Space for tank mount. Drivers side behind transfer case.
Tank mounted in under carriage
Pressure Regulator Switch, with Relay
This controls pressure regulation at 150PSI, as well as switches the relay from the on/off switch to power the compressor.

I later cleaned up this wiring and mounted this a bit better, I'll have to update this picture.

Air output mounted on old bumper
This is the mounted quick release air output for connecting hoses to. This was the old bumper, we have since replaced the bumper and I have not re-mounted this connection, once I do I'll update that mounting picture.
